Anne Frank - The Diary of a Young Girl

The Diary of a Young Girl  is a book of the writings from the Dutch language diary kept by Anne Frank while she was in hiding for two years with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. The family was apprehended in 1944 and Anne Frank ultimately died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The diary was retrieved by Miep Gies, who gave it to Anne's father, Otto Frank, the only known survivor of the family. The diary has now been published in more than 60 different languages.

  2. These are the facts I knew about the World War 2 but I did research for some parts, for example the year and the countries.

The World War 2 lasted from 1939 to 1945. It was fought between two groups of countries: Axis powers and Allies. Axis Powers included Germany, Italy and Japan. Allies included Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union, Chiba and United State of America.
Germany was ruled by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. In 1939, Hitler invaded Poland. Britain and France went to war with Germany in September 1939 because they wanted to help Poland. And the World War 2 started. In 1941, America also joined the war, after Japan attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbour in Hawaii.
During the war, discrimination against Jews by Nazis led to Holocaust where many Jews were killed in concentration camps.
By May 1945, the war in Europe was over. Allied armies invaded Germany. Pacific war went on until August 1945. The Allies dropped atomic bombs on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan surrendered and the World War 2 was over.

As I am from Japan, I have read a lot about the time during World War 2 in Japan. In Okinawa, the intense war was fought and a lot of the innocent citizens became the victims. Japan was the only country where the atomic bomb was actually dropped. It caused a huge damage to the city and many people were killed. The radioactive contamination also became a problem. I think the war is very crucial and should not happen anymore.

    1. Lessons that we can learn, by reliving and reading about the past and the mistakes - very costly mistakes that have been committed by people in power. Being Japanese you have first hand knowledge of the times. Thanks for sharing!

  3. A very unfortunate time in history, indeed! Goes to prove how one man's thinking can alter a whole nation and an entire race of people! The power of authorized propaganda. Unimaginable!

  5. World War II is also known as the Second World War. It was a global war that was underway by 1939 and ended in 1945.
It involved the vast majority of the world's nations—including all of the great powers—eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis.

Of Allied major powers consists of the United States and the Soviet Union, Britain, France's representative.

Axis powers Germany, led by Hitler and Mussolini led Italy and
reigning Asian powers in the 20th century, the Japanese representative.

In a part of Asia, Japan attacked Korea at first.

  6. World War II

Japan and Germany started the World War II to take control of America and Italy. Japan was thinking they are strong because they won in World War I but America dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Japan and Germany lost. America won this war but they didn't take the control of Japan. King of America decided this. I think if he didn't decide like this and took the control of Japan, Japan wasn't like what it is now. Maybe there was no Japanese and everyone was speaking English, most of the Japanese were christian and everything was different.

  7. World War 2 in Europe began on the third of September, 1939. It involved many of the world's countries. The second World War was started when Germany attacked Poland. The war ended in the summer of 1945. It is known that 50 million people lost their lives during World war 2. Children and some woman were evacuated from the big cities into the countryside. People carried gas masks to protect themselves and built air raid shelters. All windows were blacked out so their safe.

  8. As an American, we learned about World War 2 very differently. We were mainly taught about the Pearl Harbor incident, which was when a surprise air attack was launched by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and also, how we bombed 2 major cities in Japan because we had "no choice."
In reality,if you put aside the American point of view and take it from a global perspective, the Second World War was about much more than that. It started when Germany attacked Poland and soon other countries decided to act. World War 2 was divided and fought amongst 2 groups of counties: the axis and the allies.
During the war, Adolf Hitler and the Natzis made the Jewish race miserable by treating them unfairly, capturing them and dropping them in concentration camps, and killing them. Most Jews decided to go into hiding, but eventually most were found and killed.
Many invasions, attacks, and deaths were caused during the Second World War. After 6 long and painful years, it came to an end in 1945 when the axis powers surrendered.

  9. I’ve lived in very different places around the world, including Germany, that have taught different views of World War 2.
World War 2 was a global war that lasted for 6 terrible years, between 1939 and 1945. The war started with the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany on Friday 1st September, 1939. On September 3rd, 1939 Britain and France declared war on Germany. Two groups of countries called the allies and the axis were created. The axis was made up by mainly Germany, Japan and Italy, and the allies included most of the countries like Britain, France and America.
During the war, countless invasions and attacks were held. Also, in World War 2 the Nazis treated the Jewish race wretchedly, in Hitler’s command. They ended up capturing most of them and taking them to concentration camps to be killed. In 1945 the war finally came to end, when the axis countries surrendered, after Adolf Hitler had committed suicide.
World War 2 was the largest armed conflict in history, which included almost the entire world, and introduced powerful new weapons, like nuclear weapons. Fifty million people all over the world lost lives. This was a long painful event that will hopefully never happen again.

    1. We do recall and learn about the past, the horrors inflicted by crime and war, and learn to not repeat the thoughtless actions that have gone down in history as the most horrific ever!

    2. As a french person when I learnt about world war two a lot of the attention was focused on the german occupation in France and about the D-day (deliveration day) when thousands of americans acosted on the beaches of normandy and struggling to get a grip there. Many americans died in the process, but they suceeded. After getting a hold of the beaches, the french general, Charles de Gaule, who had networks of spies and soldiers scattered across France, attacked with the americans and pushed the germans back, eventually recapturing France and then the other countries conqurered by Germany, enventually making Germany surrender (Hitler suisided himself). Meanwhile Pearl Harbor was bombed by the japanese, and in retaliation the americans dropped two atomic bombs onto Japan, which forced them to surrender and the war was over.

    3. The origins of the Second World War are generally viewed as being traced back to the First World War (1914-1918). In that war Germany under the ultra-nationalistic Kaiser Wilhelm II along with its allies, had been defeated by a combination of the United Kingdom, United States, France, Russia and others.

The war was directly blamed by the victors on the miltant nationalism of the Kaiser's Germany; it was Germany that effectively started the war with an attack on France through Belgium.

France, which had suffered a previous defeat at the hands of Prussia (a state that merged one year later with others to form Germany) in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, demanded revenge for its financial devastation during the First World War (and its humiliation in the earlier war) ensured that the various peace treaties, specifically the Treaty of Versailles imposed tough financial reparations and restrictions on Germany.
